Hosting 365 in Poland
Published April 26th, 2006 in Business in PolandYesterday and the day before yesterday I helped Hosting365 (the biggest hosting company in Ireland) to setup Research and Development Department in Krakow (south Poland). I prepared the “battlefield” so it took us only 2 days to go through “to-do-list” when Ed Byrne (Hosting365 representative) arrived to Poland.
We rented and equipped an appartment as a developer’s office. Appartment is located about 10 minutes from Balice (Krakow international Airport). We also hired one excellent php / DB / Ruby on Rails developer for a good start. If all goes well (I’m sure it will) other developers will be hired within few weeks.
What’s the point of abroad Research and Development departments? First of all cost reduction. Outsourcing is profitable for Irish / British / American companies even with one person hired (all costs included). Savings are getting higher if you hire more people.
I suppose Hosting365’s plans about Poland are a bit more serious then small R’n'D team. Fingers crossed!
Here is Ed Byrne’s photo session from trip to Poland.

Hi Tomasz …
Nice to see your finally blogging!
Thanks for all the help in setting up the R&D department. I can confirm that we are very happy with the way things are going for us in Poland and have very serious business plans, both in terms of growing an R&D department and doing business.
Aside from the cost benefits, the great thing about Polish R&D is that it’s a very accessibile EU country (as oppose to long flights to China or India), the level of English is very good, and the education levels (particularly in technology) are excellent.
Ed.
